I mixed up another batch of the Concrete Paper Clay recipe I learned about on Ultimate Paper Mache to experiment with using it over a form to make a hollow shell. I had these half-spheres in the studio, and I decided to give it a try. Wrapped the form with foil, spread the clay with a palette knife, then let it dry for two days. As it was drying, I noticed some air bubbles form, but I was able to pop and smooth back down. With a bit of encouragement from a putty knife, I could remove the form and was left with a perfect bowl-like shell. Now I want to try joining these shapes into a head with two large bug eyes. Knowing the clay can support itself with the under armature removed opens up different options for building large creatures.
