Covering the giraffe head with paper strips took about five hours, but now I have a firm, hollow shape to begin my sculpture. It’s strong enough to mount on this tripod stand so I can start to get a feel for the shape and how I want to position it on the neck that I’m building next.
I plan to wall mount this giraffe head so it looks like it’s poking its head thru the wall and looking down at you. It’s so large that I need to build an internal support of wood or pipe to take the weight. I want to sculpt a layer with concrete paper clay over the top of the paper mache.
