Started an online course on Color Mixing with Will Kemp’s Art School. I’ve has never taken the time to stop and learn about the color wheel or color theory. I have hacked my way forward, guessing with trial and error. Now I’m learning a process for mixing acrylic paint to reproduce any color I see in a photo or real life. So far I’ve had about twenty “ah-ha” moments filling in the blanks of my knowledge of color, mood, tone, and hue – and I’m only on lesson four.
One interesting bit I’ve learned is that impressionist painters never used black! Instead, they tone down colors using complementary pigments on the color wheel. *mind blown*
