Working in sections, I’m adding the epoxy clay shell over the paper armature. This creates a very hard rigid base to sculpt against. I have a working time of 2.5-3 hours once the clay is kneaded together. After it dries overnight, I can add more on top.
Everything was progressing well until the panda came crashing off the wall in the middle of the night. The glued ears popped off, but the epoxy coating was un-harmed. I’m at a standstill until I can get a better way to hang the panda and support the weight. By the time I’m done, I will have added 5 pounds of epoxy clay over this armature. Lessons learned… engineer the hanging system first before sculpting.
